Grade Level:4 – 12

At The Director’s Cut, what you think is what you get! In this one of a kind workshop, clay is the main ingredient for fun! You construct your own characters and scenes and then using our stop motion technology and cutting edge digital video cameras, Mac book computers, expert instruction from film makers and your imagination, you will bring things to life in your very own Hollywood blockbuster stop motion film! Don’t forget to add sound effects, voice overs, special effects, transitions and titles to make your film a shoe in for an Academy Award!

Movie trailers are produced based on an intricate formula that develops emotion amongst members of the audience.  The Director’s Cut will introduce your students to the art of movie trailer production and then engage them in a full day of making movie trailers.  Camera angles, advanced editing, story lines and creative collaboration will be explored during the full day workshop.

Comic Relief

Grade Level:3- 8

Wham! Shazam! Pow! Only a few choice words used by your favourite super hero as they around around the world to battle evil and save the world from…. well anything you can imagine! At the Director’s Cut, you become the author, digital illustrator, digital photographer and creator in our all star workshop Comic Relief! using our digital cameras, lap top computers, expert super hero instruction (please note our instructors are only super heroes on weekends and after 9), and your imagination, you along with your cast of side kicks will create you idea, take digital pictures, edit them and then comicfy yourselves, creating a one of a kind, published comic book that may make Stan Lee get a little nervous! Not into super heroes, then try… anything you want….. it’s your imagination you know!

The Comic Relief Workshop is designed for director’s in grades 3 through 8.

Comic Relief workshops are offered as full day in class workshops.

Documentary & Mockumentary Film Making

Grade Level:8-12

In this full day in class workshop, film crews will have the opportunity to choose a social issue and critically learn how to develop a documentary to portray it. Using the latest in digital media technology, film crews will critically develop their concept, script their film, develop and implement still images as a part of a moving story and then film a narrative portion to accompany the images. Music, titling, and voice overs will be added to bring the documentary to life.

This workshop is currently being offered for young director’s in grades 8 – 12 as a part of our Media Literacy workshops.

This is a full day in class workshop and is inclusive of a pre and post curriculum package that includes an assessment and evaluation kit.

 

I Wanna Rock

Grade Level:7-12
Everyone has a little superstar in them and with I Wanna Rock, we bring it out! Students write their own music lyrics and then create the music to go along with it. Then they take off their writing hats and grab a seat on the Director’s Chair to direct their very own music video!

 

More Than Words

Grade Level: k – 3
Snap some pictures… edit them… Create the coolest story lines ever and put your words into motion in our newest digital success story… MORE THAN WORDS! During this full day in class workshop you will become the digital author of your very own interactive story book. Learn angles for taking digital pictures, import your pictures and then edit them to creating an exciting adventure. Once complete, you go Hollywood and turn your story into a truly “moving experience”…. Photos move before your eyes and with the help of transitions, special effects, music, sound effects and your own voice, your own live action story book comes to life! Special guest celebrity appearances in your book include…. WHO YOU WANT TO BE! Quiet On The Set

Grade Level:5 – 12

Sometimes actions speak louder than words. With this is in mind, we would like to introduce a totally brand new workshop, in which students will be transported back to the 1920s, where silent films were king. The program will emphasize the importance of facial expressions and body language to help tell a story without the aid of talking. The students will also learn how to use music as a driving force behind plot development and helping to express particular emotions, feelings and ideas. The films will be shot in black and white, using the same frame rate as was used in the silent era. This workshop is specially designed for classes looking to enhance their dramatic creativity and musical sensibilities, while also learning valuable lessons in digital media literacy. The Quiet on the Set workshop is so amazing it will make you speechless (literally)! This workshop is currently being offered for young director’s in grades 5 – 12 as a part of our Media Literacy workshops.

Rock, Paper, Scissors, Paper Stop Motion Animation

Toying Around

Grade Level:4 – 6
Do your toys have a secret life of their own? Do you need a video camera to catch your toys in the act? Well, at The Director’s Cut, action figures and toys can come to life! Using our video cameras, Apple lap top computers, our expert instruction and your imagination things will come to life in your very own Hollywood blockbuster! This full day in class media workshop puts you in the director’s chair and on location. Using stop motion videography, and your toys, you will create the dvd, add the sound effects, voice overs and music, all to be showcased on your very own, first edition dvd.
